Federal Grants For Students 

A more popular Federal Grant is the Federal Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduates getting a bachelor degree conferred by universities and colleges. 
Maximum Federal Pell Grant for award year 2010-2011 to $5,550,

Grants are used at any one of the 5,400 participating secondary institutions. Grant amounts are dependent on: 

1. The student's EFC (expected family contribution);

2. The cost of attendance which is determined by the institution; the student's enrollment status. 

Many recently unemployed individuals do not know that they may now be eligible for Federal Pell Grants and other need-based student aid. The department may adjust financial aid eligibility based on special circumstances.
